Developing Enquiry and Activity-based Learning and Teaching
Date du début: 31 août 2016, Date de fin: 30 août 2018 PROJET  TERMINÉ

RSG 't Rijks is a large general secondary school in the South West of the Netherlands. At the moment the school has approximately 2670 students and 250 staff. The school offers a wide range of options to cater for the different interests and skills of its students. Internationalisation with a focus on the European- as well as the global dimension, is one of the key areas in our school policy. Over the years this has resulted in a large number of long-lasting international projects, an increasing network of international contacts and new teaching ideas and practices, such as CLIL, project and enquiry based learning (Technasium / Beta Challenge/ WON) etc. All of which have been incorporated in the curriculum. This new project is aimed at two groups of staff. The first group consists of teachers from the bi-lingual (TTO) department who need to further develop and deepen their knowledge and teaching skills in accordance with the goals outlined in the strategic development plan of the TTO department. As part of this project a total of ten(10) teachers from the TTO department will take part in two different international professional development courses over a period of 2 years. A group of six (6) will attend workshops on CLIL methodology given by expert trainers in an international setting. This will also enable networking and international orientation and cooperation both in- and outside their subject areas. Similarly a group of four (4) teachers will attend international workshops organised by accredited providers of the IB organisation in the same period of two years. Participants in the said professional development workshops are expected to further develop their competences in applying CLIL and IB methodology in accordance with the strategic (TTO) development plan to guarantee the continuity and the quality of teaching within the TTO department. The second group involves eight (8) staff (management, teachers, trainees) who will be involved in jobshadowing and teaching activities in our partner schools over a period of two years. Both management and teaching staff will work on competences such as leadership, organisation and didactic skills with a view of improving the quality of management and the type of education that the school provides. One of the focus points would be how to link internationalisation goals with the daily practice at our schools. Participants will learn how to connect the mission of our school with those of internationalisation in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude required. They will also focus on the way in which enquiry- and activity based learning is integrated in partner schools' curricula. We wish to use the outcomes of the project activities to stimulate methodological and didactic developments / ideas that can be used at all levels throughout the school population. The same goes for the way in which the school is organised / managed. Activities within the context of this project will by their nature contribute to the international dimension at RSG 't Rijks. By continuing our cooperation with new and existing partners we will be working on the continuity and development of a cross-curriculsr approach towards internationalisation. Building on our previous KA1 and other projects we believe we will widen the international perspective of both the school organisation and the teaching staff. This, in turn will lead to innovation as well as improvement of existing (teaching) practices that will improve the quality of the school as a whole and prepare our students and staff for the future.
