Developing Employability Programmes using Interactive Curriculum Technologies

Developing Employability Programmes using Interactive Curriculum Technologies (DEPICT) seeks to understand how new communication technologies can be used to deliver enhanced employability in direct response to the needs of employers. DEPICT is a follow up to ERASMUS IP funded Creative Enterprise Futures Enterprise Bootcamps which involved students from universities in Europe helping them to develop enterprising skills through a week long interactive, problem solving approach to business issues. The bootcamps allowed small cohorts of students to develop their employability skills by working with businesses and students from different countries and backgrounds.The recent economic crisis has emphasised that Higher Education Institutions need to provide “more for less”. DEPICT recognises that engaging enterprises in delivering a curriculum around employability is vital and offers much in terms of both student learning and meeting employer need. In contrast, recent literature suggests that businesses are still dissatisfied with the interpersonal, commercial and practical skills that graduates have. DEPICT will therefore fully assess the needs of Small to Medium-sized Enterprises in order to be able to influence future HE policy and learner development strategy in this area.In order to scale the benefits of the boot-camp programme, DEPICT has been influenced by the massive advancement in technology over the last 10 years. The recent growth of products and services facilitating rich, interactive experience indicate that technological solutions may now be used to share tacit knowledge, commercial experience and guidance to significant numbers of students based remotely, encouraging transnational interaction and shared learning. The project will work with SME’s and test a number of technologies, disseminating findings to ultimately benefit any organisation by offering the opportunity to review findings and develop programmes in accordance with their own need.
