Developing Cross-Border Knowhow on the Prevention of Social Exclusion of Children and Youth

Objective of the projectThe overall objective of the project is to improve children’s and young people’s self-esteem and psychosocial wellbeing, and prevent their social exclusion in Northern Finland and Republic of Karelia.Main activities• Surveys for analyzing the present contextual and societal situation to target the actions and evaluating the actions.• Education and training of teachers, social- and healthcare professionals and other collaborative associates about preventive mechanisms of social exclusion and good practices to promote social inclusion.• Establishing development projects in schools and in free time activities.• Organized public seminars for teachers, teacher students, parents, social and healthcare professionals and other collaborative associates.• Producing a toolbox of good practices to promote psychosocial wellbeing of the children and youth.• Reporting recommendations and good practices to professionals and public audience. Achievements: Children’s and young people’s self-esteem and psychosocial wellbeing in Northern Finland and Republic of Karelia were improved. Teachers, parents and specialists managed to find new ways and operation models to promote wellbeing and prevent social exclusion of children and youth. Every participated school created their own practical ways to support the wellbeing. Involved pupils´ life skills became better and self-esteem stronger according to surveys. Partaking schools developed permanent tools and models to increase psychosocial wellbeing, and the next generations of pupils will be able to gain support as well.The produced toolbox of good practices and the report of recommendations help to disseminate the results of the project with the larger audience.
