Deutsch-Griechische Jugendbegegnung Riehl-Schule Wiesbaden (Arbeitstitel)

The German-Greek youth exchange "Two Nations - One Nature" is organized in Wiesbaden in cooperation of the youth department wi&you (nonformal education) at the department of Social Affairs of the Capital City Wiesbaden (State Hesse) together with the social workers at the Wilhelm-Heinrich-von-Riehl-Schule in Wiesbaden's suburb Biebrich, a suburb "above average social needs".In Biebrich there is a big greek community, most of this citizens of Biebrich have their family roots in the town / region Florina. That’s how the organizers from Wiesbaden got in contact with the "Gymnasium Nr. 2" in Florina. By this project, wi&you is giving young people in the age of 13 - 15 years old with fewer opportunities the chance to gather international experiences (20 youngsters + 4 leaders per country). Through the project the partner school in Greece is creating an exceptional offer for young people in a rural region. Through the target group and adventure oriented activities and settings for intercultural learning, the participants of both countries get the chance to exchange and encounter. As the main subject was chosen the protection of nature, environment and climat. These issues are the golden thread of "Two Nations - One Nature" which will be process in the exchanges in both countries as well as in the preparation and the follow-up. The youngster will also deal with the special historical relations between Biebrich and Florina. In Wiesbaden the youngsters will take a weekly "Greece" course for the whole school year 2016/17 in which they will get prepared for the exchanges and in which they can share ideas and implement them. The project is supporting the key competences like Language skills, creativity, the ability to work in a team, communication behavior, social and ecological responsibility and the formation of identify in the adolescents. A further aim is that the youngsters after they finished the project will be active in their local communities and take part in other international exchanges as well as to foster the relations between Biebrich and Florina. The projects combines players of non formal education with formal education and is fostering the civic engagement of the youngsters in Europe through participation in social life.
