Desarrollo de las competencias lingüísticas en Lengua Inglesa del personal docente
Date du début: 10 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 9 sept. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

This project arises in view of our school drive to single out its educational offer by teaching a part of the school curriculum in English as an instrumental language in order to improve our students knowledge of English as well as their lifelong learning. In our country with unfavourable socio-economic context, we are convinced that training is definitely one of the basic pillars for recovery, and, particularly, a good knowledge of languages is essential to guarantee our students; chances of mobility. We hope all this will result in both an improvement of the system's quality and a better recognition and prestige of our school. The managing board identified some room for improvement in the teaching staff level of English if they were to teach some of the subjects using English as a vehicular language. Besides a need to train teachers to use suitable methodologies such as CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) was also detected. Such training is crucial to allow teachers to have a good command of the foreign language and also to learn the specific vocabulary they will need when teaching their own subjects in English, as well as to build their confidence to teach in the foreign language. The participants profile is that of a teacher who teaches subjects other than English, with a B2 or higher level of English, and who is highly motivated about the project and is also willing to take that training. On this occasion, seven teachers of all disciplines took part in this training programme. The scheduled activities involved the teachers participation in structured courses about methodology on content and language integrated learning in English as well as specific vocabulary. All these courses, which had been given by native, specialised English teachers, took place in Ireland and Malta. The teachers taking part in the project traveled to their destinations to attend their training sessions. The school provided support and will also carry out their preparation as well as the follow-up of the activity. With this project our school has realised to increase the number of subjects which are taught in English and, consequently, to improve our students knowledge of this language, which will hopefully bring them greater prospects for employment as well as better chances of mobility on a European and global scale. In the long term, we aim to gradually increase the number of teachers involved in the project by up to one third of our teaching staff, and also to subsequently include another instrumental foreign language.
