The applying participant teaches foreign languages in a business school (HAK 1 Wels) in Upper Austria. This school offers young students (age group: 14 - 19) to study "International Economy", including travels to other countries, offering subjects like International Economy, Marketing and Business Behavior. In autumn 2014 our school starts a new branch called "Vario Hak", offering a variety of special subjects and foreign languages. Students have to choose between French and Spanish as second foreign language. Pupils tend to choose Spanish for various reasons (only between 20 and 30 % decide to take French as 2nd foreign language), this trend has already been observed in the past few years. In case this trend will continue the possibility to choose French could be endangered because ultimately a minimum of students have to register to enable the school to offer French as foreign language. So before students start college, they have to decide which language to take and in order to decide they have to be informed. Transparency and information, collecting and exchanging important material and information are important aims of this project: French as an important language of economy, industry, culture and also of the European Community as such, has to be forwarded and it presents one of the aims of that project.
Furthermore teachers should be able to get authentic and new teaching material, cultural and linguistic awareness are to be updated, new experiences in the country and teaching experiences and techniques to be exchanged.
The partner organization of this project offers a course about French teaching techniques, innovative educational material, updated theories and language learning skills. It is interactive and offers new activities, modern skills and teaching techniques. Before the beginning of the language course the French partner organization will inform participants about essential steps to prepare the journey (to prepare course details but also other travel arrangements and accommodation in the country). During the course tutors will give a feedback about course advancement and a final evaluation will take place to inform about accomplished/ achieved aims.
After the course the school principal and other language teachers will be informed in regular meetings about all activities, any obtained material is to be deposited at school to provide it to colleagues to use it in their lessons too.
Furthermore ETwinning will be used to get in touch with other teachers or organizations from other countries to exchange ideas and experiences.
