Since 2007, this EVS project comes within our effort to offer, to young visually impaired people (VIP) from everywhere, the chance of gaining social and professional skills through EVS and of integrating better in society. This EVS activity includes 3 nine months voluntary service projects taking place in Liège (Belgium) from 01/10/2014 to 30/06/2015. The main theme is social integration of young people, and most particularly, of minorities in local and international environments. These EVS projects will be achieved by 2 blind girls from Spain and Italy and by 1 blind boy from Germany, each of them being between 18 and 27 years old. For each EVS project, a preparatory visit is forseen between 9th and 11th September 2014, in order to assess specific needs of each visually-impaired volunteer, and to meet with instructors in daily-living skills and mobiliity as well as the host organizations. This project will be coordinated and implemented by VIEWS International, organization specialised in youth activities organized by and for young VIP. The objectives will be : - Showing to young people that visual impairment doesn’t prevent from being self-sufficient, living through an experience abroad, working in an active environment (IRHOV) ; - Better insertion of foreign populations, and integration of community immigrants by training- and awareness activities about problems linked to health (Santé Nord-Sud) ; - Getting trained for implementing adapted projects for VIP, and improving public relations of the association at local and international level (VIEWS International). Activities carried out by volunteers : - Animating activities out of lesson times : sport, computer, adapted games, singing and dancing (IRHOV) ; - The activities developped in Santé Nord-Sud will be linked to the project « let’s give them sight (donnons-leur la vue) » : collecting glasses and local Belgian population awareness of sight problems in Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo) as well as environmental problems in Europe (consumer society) ; - The activities linked with communication : newsletter, collection of articles, help for electronic writing and sending, update of the website, creation of podcasts, help for developping adapted projects to young VIP, etc. The methodology concerns non-formal education, learning by practice and with peers, work in small individual groups, debates. In the long term, the experience will be useful for the visually impaired volunteers because they will have gained important skills in their daily life (better independance in daily-living skills as well as in mobility). Moreover, they will have acquired social and linguistic competence which will favor their integration in a social and professional environment. The local communities will benefit from this project, thanks to the fact that they will keep in touch with a VIP. That will allow them to be enriched with this diversity.
