The project concerns a small rural school of ninety five students, which is situated in a small village far from any cultural attractions. The title of the project is: “Discover European countries through characteristics of their heritage”. The objectives are to allow the students to understand France better, to communicate in English with other children from European countries and for them to discover other cultures. Our partners will be five or six schools in the European Union and the SILC (International language courses and cultural) who are the organisers of the teachers training course. In each classroom the items of French heritage will be studied and presented to different schools in the project, this will be by videos or emails. The students will have to research, discuss and debate using written and oral expression in French and English. The use of computers will be necessary. The students will be working in groups also individually, sometimes within their own school and sometimes with the exchange school. The expected outcomes for the students will be: Improvement of their English language skills Understanding of the need and use of the English language A better knowledge of European culture and geography of Europe A better knowledge of TICE (Information and Communication Technology for Education). The expected outcome for the school: A unifying project for the school and local community. The expected outcome for the teachers: Improvement of their English language skills. In the future we can hope that the students who have participated in this project will go on to do internships, travel or work in European countries and have a sense of belonging to the European community.
