Debate for Learning and Dialogue: facilitating Euro- African dialogue and knowledge transfer through educational debate

The Proposed Project will focus on engaging youth aged 15-25 in partner countries (6 EU member states,one accession country and 6 African countries), educators and persons working with youth in the processof Euro- African dialogue and knowledge transfer as well as involving local communities in learning moreabout the issues affecting the two continents and their mutual relationships. The project will have a strongtrans-national component through facilitating sharing of methodologies, experiences and international youthexchange.The main goal of the project will be to increase the knowledge of young people in respective Europeancountries about the context of African countries, increase youth their participation and involvement in localcommunities by participating in information campaigns aimed at promotion of Euro-African dialogue. Inaddition, the Project will also develop skills of young people which can be instrumental in young people'sovercoming current problems affecting young people's lives (particularly unemployment, lack of educationalopportunities, declining health, environmental degradation, etc.). The Project will also aim at establishingcontacts between persons working with youth in selected countries and sharing of methodologies and bestpractice.The project will include the following activities: 1) structured trainings and workshops for teachers, youthworkers and youth community leaders in debate (for African partner organizations); 2) development of userfriendly resources on the issues related to Euro - African dialogue on-line at www.idebate.org 3) workshopsfor youth in all project countries; 4) support to and organization of youth debates in the 13 partner countries;5) development of a peer education model and training of youth mentors; 6) facilitating internationalexchange of experience through a face to face exchange (International Youth Forum) as well as on-linecommunication;The Project will be implemented in: the following EU countries: Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania,the Netherlands, Romania; Accession Country: Turkey and the following African countries: Ghana, Kenya,Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zimbabwe.The project will include the following direct target groups: 1) teachers and youth workers: 400(approximately 30 in each partner country); 2) youth (15-25 years old): approximately 10,000 (depending oneach country between 100-1,000)- participants of workshops and organizers of debates and discussionsand community actions); 3) indirect beneficiaries - youth exposed to debates in respective countries as wellas youth using on-line communication tools: 20,000.The outputs of the Project will include: 1) teacher and youth worker trainings - 4; 2) workshops for youth -20; 3) youth driven events (debates, discussion, community information events, etc.) - 40; 4) resources -compendium of user-friendly on-line resources on Euro - African issues; 5) communication tools (4 and 5hosted at www.idebate.org).The Project will employ an extensive use of on-line tools (website: www.idel3ate.orq) for dissemination ofinformation on the Project as well as bi-annual publication: Idebate Magazine. In addition, each ProjectPartner will employ local and national dissemination strategies that will include: disseminating informationon the project and its results among education institutions, NGOs, constituencies through the means ofpresentations, leaflets, reports. Each project will also adopt an appropriate media strategy for publicizingthe Project's results.The Project will achieve impact on a number of levels: organizational - sharing of experiences among thepartners; professional - upgrading of qualifications by educators, teachers, youth workers; personal - skillsdevelopment of youth participants and increase of knowledge; community - through sensitisation on themain issues related to the Call for Proposal and the main themes
