PROJET
TERMINÉ
This project was born from a partnership between the Centre of Beaumotte and the association Au Coin de L’Oreille, an organisation which promotes contemporary music in a rural setting.
It anticipated the meeting of 20 youths, coming from 3 different countries (Latvia, Spain and France) for 8 days from the 13th-20th September 2014.
The group was formed of young people who came from a variety of social backgrounds and with different histories, which greatly enriched their exchanges and their creations.
This project took place in the premises of the organisation Au Coin de L’Oreille in Scey Sur Saône, a small market town in the Haute-Saône region.
With the grand opening of their new concert hall “Echo System” approaching, the organisation wanted to make young people part of the creation of the concert hall and to concretely involve them in the construction of a project of local interest. Using a non-formal education approach, Au Coin de L’Oreille wanted to allow as many people as possible to be able to express themselves through the use of this music hall, encouraging each person to bring their knowledge and to share it, and to be able to leave a trace of their time spent with the organisation. The project consequentially provided the opportunity to bring into question the approaches towards music in different countries, because each participant lives and partakes in the associative and cultural life of their own country.
The young people experienced the rhythm of the organisation, “working” every day alongside their partners. On the programme: meeting artists, musical workshops with schools and the village’s recreation centre, working in partnership with a local recycling organisation on improvements to the new rooms, and more. All of these activities aimed to allow the young people to understand the challenges of the project, and to better comprehend them in order to bring their own personal touch to solving them.
The expectations of each of the participants at the time that the project was being constructed was the feature of a start-up workshop.
The Centre of Beaumotte and Au Coin de L’Oreille have a strong resource in their local partners (organisations, volunteers, local institutions), which assured the intercultural meeting at the same time as the creative accompaniment of the youths in what they produced, and in their reflections.
Non-formal education and education for peace inspired the methods used during these different workshops and stages of creation so that the participants could find their own place in the project.
The group was hosted and accommodated in the organisation’s premises and the resources there were at their disposal (kitchen, sanitation, common areas, etc.). The local population and the organisation’s volunteers were also called upon for the running of the project (vehicles, dinner with the villagers, etc.).
Keeping in mind the values of ‘autonomy’ and ‘taking initiative’, the participants were responsible for tasks revolving around day-to-day life and also their free time.
