The 2014/2018 Sept Deniers School project focuses on the one hand on oral expression, writing production and on the other hand on civic behaviours plus cultural open-mindedness.
The context : the school sets out a huge social and cultural co-educational profile which is both enriching as far as exchanges are concerned and to carry on academic trainings.
The purpose of this European project is to use these cultural differences to help the pupils to obtain a better practice of English and get to know European cultural aspects such as music and traditional dances.
To achieve this goal, several actions spaced out in time are organized :
- A weekly training of English on all levels of primary schools according to the syllabus in France.
- The practice of traditional southern dancing as well as traditional music concerts to help them to know the langue d’Oc.
- The practice of many other aspects of European culture such as watching films, meeting artists, visiting museums, scientific challenges, musical projects, team sports like football or rugby.
- Creation of a school computer blog to exchange and display the project and the publication of a school gazette.
- The twinning of classes thanks to etwinning, using electronic mail in order to know pupils from other European countries personally, sharing their culture, swapping videos so as to get to know respective traditional dances and musics.
- 9 teachers from Toulouse would be interested in this experience in Dublin (IRELAND).
- 6 people to improve their own knowledge and practice of English.
- 3 others to reinforce their skills in methodology (DNL training to vary the activities at school and make use of them in sports and traditional dances in English).
- All of them wish they could enrich their own background of the Irish culture through this linguistic immersion twinned with a ten days’ teaching (exhibitions, museums, concerts…). The aim is to store as many discoveries as possible in traditional Irish living culture so as to make up a “bank” of tools (musics, dances, documents, movies, photographs….) all sorts of documents that can be used with pupils at school.
- Organization of a European week in Toulouse (Sept Deniers School) with shows of traditional European dances.
- Planning a school trip abroad with a course of intercultural dancing.
The goal we aim at is :
A better mastering of the English language and passing level A1 for most of the pupils going to secondary school.
The wider knowledge of the common European culture and awareness of other cultures (American, African, from the Maghreb….)
The improvement of skills concerning all the techniques of information and communication thanks to school correspondence and publication on the school blog.
Lasting exchanges by etwinning or whatever it is.
In the long term the expected results would be :
A still better cohesion within the Sept Deniers school team : this experience of mobility for part of the teachers should profit the whole staff thanks to the exchange of documents and know- how and the motivation aroused by the project.
A better adhesion of pupils preventing them from failing up thanks to this cultural open- minded project and the improvement of this cultural heterogeneity.
A reinforced feeling they belong to a common European culture.
