Dangers of the Internet - Cut
Date du début: 1 juin 2016, Date de fin: 31 déc. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Internet bullying and revenge porn are two serious and important cultural phenomenon which young people today are currently experiencing. There have been several news articles recently on stories involving private sexual videos being uploaded online without consent of one of the parties involved, and the ramifications of these incidents is something our society is struggling to deal with. In the age of the internet, videos can spread like wildfire and young people's lives can dramatically change in an instant. As filmmakers, our way of communicating with the world is through the visual medium of film. Film is a powerful tool that allows us to reach out to audiences across all corners of the globe, and to engage people in a way that is a very effective form of communication. Young people in particular respond very well to film, they are receptive to stories and messages being conveyed in this way -, a way in which they don't feel like they are being lectured or preached to. Our project combines young people and film to create empowerment and social change. It is is an important and valuable way to engage young people in a dialogue around the dangers of the internet. We intend to produce a short film called Cut which looks at a story involving revenge porn and online bullying. The goal of the project is to empower young people and enable them to make smarter choices, impacting our society for the better. At the same time we intend to empower young filmmakers by giving them the tools, experience and mentorship required to further their careers, so they too can go on to share their voices with the world via the medium of film. We plan to do these through the following approach:1. Workshops with YouthWe want to engage young people in the process of script development in order to create an authentic and truthful script which will speak to and connect with young people who watch it. In order to do this we are facilitating a workshop with a small number of young people in both Iceland and the UK. This workshop will be an open forum for discussion and collaboration where the young people can share their ideas and experiences on the theme of online assault, bullying and revenge porn; which will allow us to incorporate their thoughts into the screenplay. The second workshop, which will occur after the film has been completed, will allow us to share the finished film with the youth from the first workshop. We will work with them to develop teaching tools to accompany the film, which schools can use for educational purposes. We will also work with the youth to create something at the end of the process - exactly what this is (whether it is a video, piece of art, literature) will be influenced by the workshop process and the collaboration with the young people. 2. Film ShootThe shoot itself provides a fantastic opportunity for exchange between Icelandic and UK Crew. We are pairing up 10 young Icelandic crew with 10 young UK crew in the same department. One person in each of the pairs will be the more experienced practitioner, and will be responsible for mentoring and training the less experienced crew member. This will enable the crew to have work based training to elevate their skills and careers to the next level. It will also foster relationships between the crew, and hopefully lead to more opportunities for collaboration between the two countries and the crew in future. 3. Sharing the film with audiencesThe final step of the project is to share the film with the world. Our target audience is young people in the UK and Iceland, as well as youth in other countries. The film will be shown at film festivals, in schools, at youth clubs and eventually online - maximising the audience reach and exposure. Watching the film will open up a dialogue that allows young people to discuss the dangers of the internet, which in turn will empower them to make better choices.
