Dancing Caravan

Youth Exchange "Dancing Caravan" was formed from the vision of peer learning of young people in a sustainable manner, creative sharing of artistic skills and knowledge and learning solidarity coexistence in mobile international community. The main goal of the exchange is to encourage informal peer education among young people, gift economy and creative / responsive approach to life. To give young people, through the joint creation of intercultural public performance, an opportunity to recognize their active place in the community and the possibility of their positive role in society. We want to guide young people, trough participatory methods and experiential learning, into independence, cooperation, responsibility towards nature and society. We want to create possibilities for young people to explore oneself through creative experimentation, direct experience and learning from nature. At the same time we want young people to be aware of the importance of natural and cultural heritage and want to encourage them to reflect on global environmental needs and environmental challenges. 21 young people from Slovenia, Italy, Belgium and Norway will be exploring different artistic skills through experiential learning in nature. They will be sharing with each other their experiences of different methods of informal education of social and personal learning, that use as a learning tool a body, dance, theater, music and nature. They will be also sharing among their self national dances, songs and music. Young people from a mixed structure, with different skills and from different backgrounds will be exploring combination of nature and art. Knowledge and skills for active participation will be developed trough interactive social games, experiential learning in nature, improvisation tools, sharing skills and knowledge of traditional and modern arts (dance, contact improvisation, street theater, interactive performances). The overall creative process will lead to the creation of performance on the streets of Šmartno. For achieve this, development of different skills will be required: open intercultural dialogue, listening, co-creation, co-operation, participation and involvement of all. In the creating process of the performance young people will learn about the natural and cultural environment of Slovenia, which will be a source of inspiration and creative media. At the end of the exchange they will be staying on permaculture farm, where they will be learning the basic ethics of permaculture and the global ecology. Nature experiences, close coexistence and shared creative artistic process are creating the conditions for adventure pedagogy methods based on methods of group dynamics, open communication, active participation, creative use of media, experiential learning and reflection. Other methods used during the exchange will be "Open Space", intercultural learning, creative problem solving, proactive café, a method of flash forum, methods of observation and critical reflection, different method of evaluation. The results of the exchange are going to be young people who are empowered on social and personal levels. They will be sharing mutual inspiration for development of informal education of young people through experiential pedagogy and creative-arts entertainment media. Young people at the exchange will gather activities and methods in the manual that will serve as a device for spreading the results of the project in all partner countries, their organizations and beyond. Partner organizations will be, trough designing a new international activities and trough implementation of an exchange program in all participating countries, developing high-quality support system for non-formal and peer learning of young people that is based on empirical and experiential learning and gift economy. We want to create a platform for expanding the use of art and other cultural entertainment media in the field of inclusive practices and preventive work with young people in Slovenia (and beyond) and to promote general social participation of young people.
