PROJET
TERMINÉ
This project is intended for young people, age 11-18 years old that sit as representatives for the young people in their local communities. The project addresses the need for improved methods of interaction in the lives of young people in any social circumstance, weather it may be at school, at sports clubs, online or in any other enviroment young people live and thrive.
To be able to understand interaction in its widest sense it is important to have a basic grasp on the concept of culture, therefore culture is also a core subject of this project. We intend to explore culture in its widest and its narrowest sense with the hopes of being able to pinpoint certain patterns in interaction that may be a part of some culture and hopefully increasing tolorance in a multicultural enviroment.
The participants in this project will be 19 (not counting the 4 youth leaders/trainers). 10 participants (5 male and 5 female) come from The Northern Ireland Youth Forum and are age 11-18. 9 of the participants are Icelandic and come from Ungmennaráð Miðborgar og Hlíða (The Youth Council of Central Reykjavik), 2 of them are male and 7 of them are female (the entire council will take part and the imbalance in gender is due to lack of interest in the council from young men) and are age 14-18.
The main activities in this project are two sets of workshops (each set of workshops consist of 4 differently themed workshops) that will be carried out in Iceland and Northern Ireland. These workshops focus on experiential learning and creative group work that will be facilitated by an youth leader but carried out by the participants. The participants will be asked to present an end product but they have freedom to decide in what form that product should be.
We expect that the participants will have a deeper understanding of the core subjects of the program, which includes interaction and culture. Also the positive experience with new cultures and a better understanding of European Citizenship.
We expect that the participating organisations will be better able to work with cultural differences and have an improved approach on how interaction can be approached in the broadest sense.
We also expect that the participants will "preach" what the have practiced and have an impact on their peers locally regarding improved interaction, wether it be online, in school or in other social circumstances and that their improved view on multicultural environments will be transferrable to their peers.
Locally the desired impact is that the participants will be able to inform their peers and inspire others to get involved in local community work through improved interaction and deeper understanding of intercultural dialogue.
Regionally we hope that the participating organisations will make an effort to spread the word on what they have learnt to other compatable organisations regionally by using the workshops for other interested organisations or by showing the end products of our workshops, whatever they may turn out to be. Nationally the same impact is desired but we are aware that the impact might not be as strong as it will be regionally.
On a European and international level we would be very willing to keep working with the workshops involving other interested partners and repeating this project if there is interest from other countries or organisations.
Potential long term benefits are of two sorts. One of the expected long term benefits is that the participants will have personal growth and a deeper understanding of the core subjects of the project and perhaps will be able to pass their knowledge along to their peers. The other expected long term benefit is that within each organisation there will be a deeper core understanding of the subjects addressed and that the experiences the individuals gained in this project will be passed on to other members that might join these organisations later on. Therefor the importance of good interaction is key, that the participants will conciously and unconciously pass their improved skills in interaction on to other young people that might join the organisations as well as their peers and other local, regional and/or international organisations that are interested in what the participants have learnt.
