“Farming as Europeans”, our Project, was developed after analyzing and reflecting about our professional needs as teachers. After 20 years working on the eco garden and after 10 years promoting Sustainable Development in our School through the Official web of School in Canary Islands, we are enthusiastic for integrating new farming techniques, make the usage of this green area bigger and better, exploring and making comparisons among different schools with eco gardens, knowing different fertilizants adapted to eco gardens at schools, having new methodological and organizative strategies in the classroom and around School, using the eco garden as a learning resource over all the fields in the Human Being inside the School and outside, advertising the plants and the animals in Macaronesia (Laurisilva) and the usage of vermiculture in our eco garden, maximizing the linguistic competence in English language of teachers and students speaking English as a real vehicle of communication not a subject. On the other, Eco garden allows the students having a learning process more direct, practical and useful for daily life when they observe the origin of vegetables and fruits, their relation with the environment and the climate and the importance of having a good diet. Also, Eco garden favors the inclusion of each student without any physical, intellectual or emotional handicap, acquiring important values like self-esteem, socialization, responsabilities and authonomy. Our School, Matías Llabrés Verd, is outskirts of the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife in a rural area (Llano del Moro) and there are from 3 to 12 year-old children so we teach Nursery and Primary Education. We have different green areas at School: the Eco garden, the Laurisilva garden and the arid plants garden. Our main aim in Education is the creation of a “Green society” worried and aware of the Earth cares. As a fact, we have received the First Prize as the Best Sustainable School in Teneriffe. For this reason, we consider that if we open our School to schools in Europe, we will be richer and better teachers and sharing our experiences about caring the Environment too. After having studied the relations between Canary Islands and United Kingdom in the economical field, we have chosen a School by eTwinning. This School is placed in the South of England and it is similar to our School. Epsom Downs School is in a rural area. They receive about 400 students and the teachers are very interested in the importance of caring the Environment. This school teaches Nursery and Primary, so they teach 3 months-old children until 12 year old children. Moreover, students in Year 3 and Year 4 learn Spanish as a foreign language. They are very excited about sharing this Project with us.“Farming as Europeans”, our Project, is developed through two different types of formative actions: Observing at Epsom Downs School for 6 days in England and doing two courses about Sustainable Development and Environmental Education in Greece for 4 and 6 days. We are aware of the importance of all the stages in this Project as a real learning organizing activities before the travelling, specific activities during the visit and the course and the consequences after when improving our Projects and communicating our experiences through newspapers and magazines articles, Open Day School, courses...In short, “Farming as Europeans” can be the best way and the warranty to achieve a better Education proccess going from our School to Europe and we want it to be developed through years organizing more mobilities among teachers and among students.
