This project aims at addressing the need for reliable and accurate information regarding both public and commercial transportation and services routes and timetables in the counties of North Bačka (Serbia) and Csongrád (Hungary). This problem has been revealed during previously conducted research projects in the area, and draws upon initiated projects of GIS mapping in the City of Subotica and route planning in the City of Szeged. In this way, the project will contribute to the objectives of the CBC Programme by tackling the logistical isolation of border areas and enhance mobility across the border. The end product of this project will also help dealing with various environmental concerns related to CO2 emissions from transportation fuels and energy consumption and will create further opportunities for improving business pratices in the border region. The project is scheduled to be carried out throughout 14 months and comprises the following activities:1. organising a workshop on methodology development in Szeged; 2. collecting data from the two counties for the route planning platform; 3. conducting a regional research study on the current route planning management systems utilized by public communal and private companies; 4. conducting a study visit on data collection inSubotica; 5. developing the bilingual route planning platform; 6. organising a training for public and private company representatives; 7. promoting the route planning platform and raising awareness on the advantages of efficient transportation planning. The groups who will directly benefit from the results of this project are the localcommunities of inhabitants, the local governments and municipalities, as well as the small businesses active in the project area. As efficient route planning will allow forbetter and faster connectivity, less resources will be wasted and investments will be attracted for non-existent, but demanded routes and services. Achievements: This project aimed to address the need for reliable and accurate information regarding both public and commercial transport and service routes, and timetables in the North Baika District (Serbia) and Csongrád County Hungary). In this way, the project contributes to the objectives of the CBC Programme by tackling the logistical isolation of border areas and enhancing cross-border mobility. The end product of this project also tackled environmental concerns related to CO2 emissions from vehicles and energy consumption, and created further opportunities for improving business practices in the border region. Previous research in the area and organisations working on GIS mapping in the City of Subotica and route planning in the City of Szeged found a lack of easily accessible accurate information about routes and timetable of public and commercial transport in the Hungary-Serbia cross-border region. During the year and a half long implementation of the CBC Trans-Plan project, the two institutes from neighbouring countries jointly worked on solving this problem. Firstly, they organised a workshop on methodology development in Szeged and commenced the collection of data from the two counties for the route planning platform. Then, they conducted a regional research study on the current route planning management systems utilised by public utility and private companies, and a study visit for data collection in Subotica. After developing the bilingual route planning platform, trainings for public and private company representatives were held. The trainings were a part of the dissemination activities aimed at promoting the route planning platform and raising awareness about the advantages of efficient transportation planning.Local communities, local governments and municipalities, as well as small businesses operating in the projeect area, directly benefit from the platform and accessible information on transport routes and timetables. Since efficient route planning allows for better and faster connectivity, fewer resources are wasted, thus allowing more funds to be invested in offering necessary routes and services which currently do not exist.
