Lack of infrastructure and insufficient capacity of human resources were identified as the primary problems making regions of Zemgale, Aukstaitija, and Zemaitija less competitive and attractive to visitors than expected, despite their rich cultural traditions and multiple attractions. Eleven project partners have teamed up to produce a joint strategy for promoting the region and opening visitors its traditional art and artisan crafts. Project sought to establish ten craft and art centres. The varied offer of centres can be found in the booklet of crafts and art centres in Zemgale and North Lithuania. In addition, five new tourist routes along the Latvian - Lithuanian border have been developed and are waiting for guests to come and explore the art of wood carving, enjoy the rich culinary heritage of the region by tasting traditional foods, find out the secrets of artisans as they work on leather, stone and clay, or experience an unforgettable journey into the world of history and art. Those working in culture were offered to work beside artisans in workshops and develop their skills. Local inhabitants and visitors were also able to enjoy international craft festivals and travelling photo exhibitions. Wood crafts also have been promoted by developing a digital exhibition on the internet in order to ensure maximum outreach. Achievements: Project sought to establish ten craft and art centres.
