Creativity in language learning

Communication in a foreign language is a key competence which is necessary for employability in a knowledge society, personal development, active citizenship and social cohesion. It enables people to take advantage of the freedom to work or study in Europe. Furthermore there is a strong need for training institutions to ensure that teaching staff is acquainted with new methods and pedagogy and that staff is able to address the changing educational needs of their target (e.g. students motivation). Therefore the partnership aimed to enhance the foreign language competences of different groups of learners and to improve the quality of foreign language teaching by testing, adapting and implementing creative methods ( story telling, drama pedagogy or movie making).A series of workshops involving language teachers and learners were held in order to present and teach the theoretical background and the technical skills needed to apply the creative methodologies successfully in the partner institutions and to exchange experiences. The workshops were followed by periods of testing and implementing the methodologies with active involvement of trainers and learners of each partner organisation. Based on the evaluation of the testing period a guideline (handbook) for the integration of the creative methodologies into teaching practices was developed.a) Preparation phase and first meeting in Germanyb) 2nd meeting in Poland: Workshop on Storytellingc) Testing of Storytelling method in each partner organisationd) 3rd meeting in Finland: presentation of testing results of Storytelling and workshop on Drama Pedagogye) Testing of Drama pedagogy in each partner organisationf) 4th meeting in Italy: presentation of testing results of Drama pedagogy and workshop on Movie Making g) Testing of Movie Making activities in each partner organisationh) 5th meeting in Lithuania: presentation of testing results of Movie Making and Final Conferencei) Finalisation of the handbook
