PROJET
TERMINÉ
Primary School Zitnjak is situated in one of the poorest suburbs of Zagreb with the high rate of unemployment.
The overwhelming majority of our 602 pupils come from working-class families. Many families of our pupils (100) live on the social.
About 10 percent of our pupils are Roma children who live in inadequate conditions.
The school is muticultural and multireligious due to the great percentage of ethnic minorities (Bosniaks, Serbs, Albanians, Roma). The school provides religious classes for our predominantly Catholic pupils and for our Muslim pupils (99).
32 pupils are taught according to specific and individualized education programmes due to their learning difficulties.
The main difficulties our school copes with are: low motivation, bad marks and low results of our pupils.
Unfortunately, many pupils prematurely leave primary (mainly Roma pupils after the age of 15) and secondary education.
Since parents cannot afford paying private tuition, language courses nor can they help their children with studying because of their low level of education, the main responsibility rests on the motivation and professional competences of the teachers of our school.
The objectives of the project are: introducing innovative and dynamic teaching methods in order to increase pupils' motivation and activity, enhancing management skills.
The members of the Erasmus+K1 team are: headteacher, social pedagogue, teachers of German,English, maths, physics, history and art. All the members took part in the Comenius Multilateral Partnership Join Hands and Hug Europe (2011.-2013.) having shown high motivation, diligence and active usage of English. Our school was the coordinator of the project. Our headteacher highly appreciates EU projects and encourages staff to take part in them. In the team there are three language teachers and two teacher mentors. Math teacher is very skilful at using modern technologies. University students observe lessons of three teachers from our team. History teacher is the co-author of the history textbook.

All the structured courses are connected with the specific needs of our school and mainly deal with two topics: creative methodology and using ICT in teaching. The courses consist of a wide range of methods e.x.visiting a local primary school, observing lessons, discussion, workshops, debates, visiting cultural and historical sights of the local place where the course takes place.
Taking part in a structured course abroad would have immense benefits and significant impacts on the course participants, pupils, other staff members, pupils, school's image and the local community. The impacts are sustainable and long-term.The course participants would learn about the educational system and different cultural aspects of the country. Their professional, linguistic, communicative and intercultural skills would be enhanced. The participants would learn a wide range of practical and innovative teaching methods which can make teaching more modern, dynamic and thus increase pupils' motivation and activity which leads to pupils' higher achievements, better marks and results and finally to easier enrollment and finishing secondary school successfully. This would improve the school's image in the local community which has been quite low because of the underachievement of our pupils, their failure and dropping out of secondary school and frequent incidents of violence. Taking part in the courses abroad can result in participans' higher confidence and motivation. Only highly motivated and competent teachers can 'produce' motivated and successful pupils. Social pedagogue would educate teachers in our school how to use communicative activities and games for team building, intercultural education and eliminating prejudices which is connected with the needs of our multicultural school.
Some of the tangible project results would be: a web space on the eTwinning platform, brochure and video Creative and dynamic teaching, a product (arts and crafts) with the motifs of Icelandic folklore.
