Creating the Bases of the "Drava Ecological Region"

The main goal of the project is to produce studies and databases which resulted from Croatian-Hungarian cooperation and which will define the current situation and offer a complex analysis of the possibilities for sustainable development of the geographical area covered by the Ecological Region of Podravinac. Other objectives include the design of a concept for environmentally and socially acceptable sustainable development of the cross-border region and the foundations for the strategic planning of the principles of sustainability. The final goal was to have all of the components of the complex strategic plan for sustainable development of the eco-region. Achievements: The initial plans for the Ecological Region of Podravin included an area of 14,000 sq. kilometers, encompassing four micro-regions in Hungary and three Croatian counties along the river. The project involved 16 local governments and other organizations, as well as approximately 10 professional organizations and specialized companies that worked on project development. Two scientific conferences were held during the project, and the condition analysis and database resulted in three industry-specific strategic plans for sustainable development (environmental development, social community and economics).
