Description (EN): The Craft Reach project aims to develop and test services to help quality craft businesses grow and prosper in peripheral areas by improving their business models and their premises, lifting the products onto the international market and use the businesses as focal points in the local community and as inspiration for young people.The project reaches out to a wider part of the local community, but retains the artisan at its centre. Working with strong stakeholder groups and planning services to use a fully functioning web-sales site for the artisans, the project will provide new services for business growth and ensure that the local community is aware of the value of such businesses. The common challenge of distance from markets can be greatly reduced by operating within a functioning international network with its own e-sales presence.The main objective is to develop services to support and foster local small businesses in order for them to not only survive, but to prosper. The Économusée concept is still new to most artisans and the work to place the craft businesses so centrally in the community is also new. The work to create synergies between artists, artisans and the local communities is a new approach to business development when done in the context of our service development. The project will develop and test a service to provide artisan placements for young people with artisans in other Économusée network regions. It is important to show young people how heritage and quality can provide good, reliable jobs if developed in the right context. Working with experts we will look to introduce Crowd Funding to the artisans, explore the use of social enterprises for groups of the local community, and use our partners to explore the value of the Green Economy and the Blue Economy in the arctic programme area.  Expected Results (EN): Conditions for start-ups in remote, sparsely populated areas Expected Outputs (EN): The main project result could be summarised as ‘a comprehensive set of business support services that really are effective in small, remote communities and that may be transferred to other such locations’. More details of these are set out in Appendix 2, dated 10/04/2015.The project makes a clear and direct contribution to the Programme Result Indicator (PRI): ‘entrepreneurial business climate in remote and sparsely populated areas’. The expertise of the project partners provide a strong base for the project. Matched with the experience in rural business development services, green economy, blue economy, and crowd funding, the support services planned form this project will provide a genuine strong contribution to a PRI.Partners will provide a service to bring a further 19 new artisan craft businesses in to the network (including agri-food businesses). Past performance suggests that this alone will help boost turnover and increase employment. Our services will, however, provide for far more impact.One of these services will focus on preparation and support for artisans seeking to use crowd funding to raise funds. Craft Reach even has an agreement to work with Crowdcube, one of the largest UK actors in this market.As our artisans start to make a mark for themselves, we will provide services for them to help lift parts of their local business environment and community as well. We plan services to inspire young people to take up traditional crafts. We hope to retain them in the local communities and reduce out migration. One service will provide 8 placements of 14 days each for young people to spend time with artisans in any one of our regions. Another service will work to develop traineeships, some in each partner region. We will be working with third level educational institutions on these issues.The impact on the PRI will be further enhanced by the results our service to use artisan premises to showcase work of other artists and artisans. Experience from earlier projects suggest that local artists and artisans often provide artisan craft with innovative ideas and new innovative design and products. We hope this will not only attract more visitors, but also create stimulation to innovate on behalf of both artisans and visitors. We will be working with design colleges, and academia to ensure best support possible for this service.One of the services for our member artisans, which will make a difference to trading from a remote location, is the availability of our on-line web sales website. We will provide service to help them prepare the documentation and sales and packaging etc. for such activity. At the same time, our service to build the brand will continue to increase awareness of the products. Similarly, we will provide a social media service to help artisans boost their own virtual presence and marketing.
