This project is related to the rural sector and to exploiting the resources native to each region to create a level of economic growth that allows improvement of living conditions in rural areas and creation of new SME to avoid the rural exodus. Another objective is to produce the tools necessary for sustainable development of natural resources. In general terms, the project's strategic objectives are: ·Promoting coherence among the agricultural policies practiced at different levels in the Atlantic Area, and sustainable development of the area. ·Promoting extensive traditional Atlantic agriculture, linked to the area's cultural heritage, and studying the benefits of tourism and first-quality food products. ·Promoting forestry practices that lead to sustainable job creation in rural areas through an energy evaluation of natural resources. Achievements: ✔ 5 studies and 12 seminars (1200 participants and 69 institutions) on the exploitation of forests while creating a development model for the different methods of exploiting forest resources. ✔ Creation of a database and 5 trans-national seminars (497 participants) ✔ For the study of the exploitation of forest mushroom cultivation: 10 seminars and visits with discussions (518 participants). Drafting of a guide to mushrooms in Avila (1000 copies). ✔ Drafting of a guide to mushrooms in Salamanca (2,400 copies). A guide to best practices (500 copies). An interactive CD-Rom on mycology (300 copies). ✔ Study of the potentials for environmentally friendly agriculture: 10 seminars organised (456participants). 5 reports drafted (2,000 copies). ✔ Creation of catalogue of companies to process and market environment-friendly products in the province of Avila (2000 copies). Same catalogue for the region of Alto Tâmega (800 copies). ✔ Implementation of 4 experimental nurseries: 7 jobs created, 83 people worked on the technical assistance and 24 awareness campaigns were conducted. ✔ Creation of 3 regional workshops concerning the chestnut tree: 5 jobs created, 5 seminars and conferences organised (186 participants), creation of a CD (1,500 copies), 1,289 visits. ✔ Implementation of 19 pilot rural properties for experimentation and demonstration to curb the two diseases (blight and canker): 4 studies (1,900 copies), 23 interviews with the social representatives of the sector, 791 participants in all the activities. ✔ Creation of 2 pilot companies to process and market mushrooms: 6 jobs created, 350 participants in all the activities. ✔ Creation of a virtual mushroom centre in Tabuyo del Monte (León), 18 seminars de diffusion des results, creation of a brochure (1000 copies), and a dissemination CD (2000 copies). ✔ Creation of 3 experimental farms for cultivating mushrooms. Six jobs created. 3 visits to companies specialising in mushroom cultivation. Two training sessions and 4 training days (158 participants). ✔ Creation of a guide to best practices in environment-friendly farming (500 copies). Creation of a manual and educational guide (1,000 copies). Participation of 54 social representatives. ✔ Implementation of 2 technological innovation resource rooms. 4 training workshops. 28 people and 9 social representatives participated in these activities. ✔ Creation of a guide to best practices on chestnuts (500 copies). Creation of the book "Cocinando castañas de Tenerife" (650 copies). ✔ 8 seminars on forests and chestnuts (252 participants). ✔ 8 seminars to study the potential for mushroom cultivation, sustainable management (234 participants). 45 social representatives took part in these activities. ✔ 8 seminars to study the possibilities of environment-friendly farming as a model for sustainable management (222 participants). ✔ Participation of 114 social representatives. ✔ 6 seminars and 2 information days to show how the technological innovation rooms work.
