The project "Protection and Monitoring in National Park of Dadia-lefkimis-Soufliou" has been implemented for 14 years and longer subjected under the Youth Mobility Erasmus +. It is expected to last 17 months two participating volunteers. No specific skills are required from potential volunteers apart from having a sincere interest in nature and a truthful desire to learn.In general, the volunteers will need to be equipped with a strong motivation and a good disposition. Main objectives of the Dadia project are: 1. Systematic monitoring of biotic parameters (vultures, birds of prey, rare fauna species or important species for the survival and conservation of raptors)2. Dissemination of scientific knowledge and management proposals to involved authorities like Forest Services, Management Park authorities, regional and central authorities which consist our main target group3. Promotion of active protection of raptors and their breeding and foraging biotopes within actions of guarding in the Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli National Park (hereafter Dadia NP) and in focused areas in Thrace.4. Monitoring of wind farms’ impact on raptors within policy and lobbying for the acceptance of a zoning map for the proper planning of wind farms proposed by our organization5. Promotion of collaboration and synergies among the involved authorities within our participation in the boards of 2 National Parks, Dadia NP and Evros Delta NP6. Awareness events for land users related to the raptors’ threats as the direct persecution and the poisoning. Out main target group consists by livestock breeders which on one side create suitable biotopes for raptors and provide food to them and on the other side is part of the problem when they illegally control predators by using poisoned baits.The main activities of the project in which all volunteers ttake part are the following:1. Monitoring reproductive activities of black and griffon vulture inside the Dadia NP and adjacent areas, in collaboration with the Management Body of Dadia’s NP.2. Monitoring the reproductive activities of the Egyptian vulture in Thrace. 3. Guarding nest of egyptian vulture inside Dadia’s NP.Participating in guarding the egyptian vulture’s nests inside the 4. Guarding crucial areas of Thrace against the use of poision baits with the help of specially trained dogs.5. Monitoring avifauna in Evros Delta in collaboration with the Management Body of the National Park of Evros Delta.6. Estimating the abundance and distribution of terrestrial tortoises.7. Estimating the abundance and distribution of terrestrial tortoises.8. Literature reviews of scientific issues relating to WWF’s actions in the area.9. Participating in social events10. Inserting all the data produced from the field work, arranging other office documents etc.The methodology used is specific to each activity and each one has its own characteristics and its own particularities.Surely every single person belonging to the staff at WWF Greece project will benefit from the project. At a professional level, meeting new people who have a real interest in the activities developed by the team is encouraging and in a way motivating, because the knowledge is shared, new questions are answered and new ideas arise. Finally the impact on the local community is both important and basic, as local people have seen foreign youngsters coming a long way from their home to contribute to the good state of “their” environment. This leads to more intercultural communication and understanding.
