Connecting the Alps with YOURopean habitats 2016

Motivated by the very positive experiences of our 2015 training course we want to get another chance to enable vivacious exchange between youth workers of different countries and with doing so, strengthen cohesion of European regions. By sharing knowledge between the participants, we are able to create understanding for particular claims and desires. Our 2016 training course aims again to increase the participants’ abilities to recognize regional similarities/differences and to exchange information on environment, development (society, economy, tourism) and challenges like natural hazards and climate change between the participating organizations. Beyond that, we also want to discuss about migration in and to Europe with a special focus on "climate refugees" as this focus perfectly fits into our discussions on weather and climate (change) as well as regional development. The course is based on 28 participants from seven countries (Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Latonia, Poland, Romania and Spain) with backgrounds in youth work, education, project management within EU youth programs and environmental issues as well as several trainers from local institutions (University of Innsbruck, InfoEck - youth information centre of Tyrol, Nature park management Ötztal, Austrian labor market service, Gedächtnisspeicher Längenfeld etc.). To achieve the project goals, participants will do preparatory work and meet one week from 21 till 26 August 2016 in the impressive and versatile environment of Obergurgl, a small settlement in the Ötz valley. Excursions and non-formal learning methods will be used to transfer basic scientific knowledge (e.g. geology, weather and climate, natural hazards), social and civic competences (e.g. requirements for labor market, risk management, sustainable tourism, migration), among other skills (e.g. communication in foreign languages, tolerance, cultural awareness) and to equip the participants with the right tools to pass this knowledge on to youngsters. Therefore the project has an impact not only on the participants, but also on the target group they are working with. Through extensive dissemination activities the project will have an impact on different levels. Discussions and workshops will serve to commonly develop ideas for improved regional cooperation as well as plans for ongoing and enhanced information exchange. New media will be used to enable project related communications beyond the time frame of the project.
