NATURE and the Mutsaersstichting would like to give youngsters with psychological issues chances to get to know themselves in a new and different way, by challenging them during a multi-day program in the South of Belgium. By using Adventure Therapy as a means to advance and support their learningprocess before, during and after this program, we want to give the youngsters opportunities to co-create positive experiences.NATURE and De Mutsaersstichting are already involved in the approved European partnership project 'Reaching Further', which has as an objective to further develop and spread out the guidelines about AT in Europe. If we want to be able to use AT as a method in Europe, it is necessary that these guidelines can be tested, evaluated and optimalised. A youth exchange with two neighbourly countries, who speak the same language, seems like an accessible first test of the guidelines of the partnership. This way we can attune the body of thought about AT, share knowledge, test out the guidelines and evaluate the results. This youth exchange will be an adventurous 5-day camp during Easter holidays, for two groups of each 4 Dutch and 4 Belgian participants of 14-18 years old, facing mental troubles. They will be staying in a camphouse in the Belgian Ardens, and exchange and informal learning will be the key concepts. By offering youngsters experiences in an informal way, we want to improve their self-esteem, their self-knowledge, social skills, etc. The adventurous activities we want to use for this are : kanoeing, hiking, via ferrata,... These can be complemented with group dynamic excercies and active reviewing, methods that are inherent to an experiëntial approach. The evaluations of this project will be accumulated through group reflections and daily measurements of the 'Sessie_Scorings_Schalen'. The results of the whole youth exchange and the evaluations of the guidelines will be spread out through e-mail, the European AT-website and the European AT-conference in 2017 towards other European countries working with AT. This way even more youngsters will be able to benefit from the results of this youth exchange in the future.
