Community Supported Agriculture for Europe
Date du début: 1 janv. 2015, Date de fin: 29 févr. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The following project is a European Voluntary Service within the Gartencoop Freiburg. This cooperative is successfully implementing an innovative Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) scheme. Some 290 members are sharing the costs and risks of a farm near the southwest German city of Freiburg. Whatever the harvest, good or poor, it’s distributed to all members. Seasonal, sustainable organic agriculture, 100% peasant non hybrid seeds, short distribution circuits, solidarity economy, collective property, education and contributing to the labour are just some of the many hallmarks. Since 2011 the cooperative has been organically growing mainly vegetables on ca 9 ha land and feeding hundreds of people. The main aim of the project is to promote an economic model of agriculture that is socially and ecologically sound throughout Europe. CSA (community supported agriculture) is a starting point for a collective and solidarity strategy to act against climate change and the crisis in the agricultural sector. The cooperative is internationally appreciated for its exemplary character within the growing European CSA movement. Especially among young people looking for new professional perspectives in agriculture, our project is considered an inspiring model. The CSA model and especially Gartencoop are showing a way to counter the alarming ageing in the agricultural sector.
