Project "Community agents" involved 7 young people and young people with fewer possibilities from 6 different countries: Hungary, Finland, Portugal, Slovakia, Belgium and Spain on a long term volunteering in Labin, Croatia from 01.05.2015. till 30.04.2016. Project tended on the promotion and dissemination of the values of volunteering, EU citizenship, culture differences and participation together with creating opportunities for active engagement by meeting challenges, developing new knowledges and life skills which improved their social and professional paths. By this project we wanted to recognize, appreciate and utilize youth strengths and to enable them education by various activities to see the ways in which their participation is helpful and important as active contributors. This project was a great opportunity for youngsters to learn about another country, culture, language, broaden their horizons, get new ideas and see themselves as a part of a greater collective and a great opportunity for the local community to meet a different culture. Through active participation, volunteers could gain a sense of responsibility and an experience which made them think of European citizenship and the role they can play back in their own communities. Environment was created in order to appreciate the cultural mixture that Europe offers which enriched their identity as EU citizens. Participants from different backgrounds and different countries tend to build solidarity between local and international communities and promote volunteerism as a tool to foster social cohesion, peace building and participatory development. Objectives of the project were to empower and encourage youth to act as multipliers in the local community with non formal education, volunteerism, cultural differences and EU citizenship as generative engine for self-development and leadership. This enabled a personal and professional development with the effect for youth to successfully move forward with greater confidence and to apply these skills in active community role.
