The title of our project was “COME as you are-BE (with) the others in EUrope” and had the acronym COME.BE.EU. This project involved participation from nine European secondary schools: Cyprus, Portugal, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Poland and Spain. In this project, pupils had the chance to be "with the others", interacting with them, but simultaneously they were also “the others". They had the opportunity to partake in dancing, singing, cooking, playing as if they were natives from other countries and at the same time promoted their own culture and understood the culture of others. The idea of "Come as you are" was a label, which implied not only an idea of projection, but also of acceptance, so that young people could become active European citizens. Students had the opportunity to share experiences and appreciate how wonderful Europe is, in all its diversity. All the activities in which the students took part helped them to open themselves to others and, in the process, to discover their own identity in the EU. During the two year duration of the project, nine meetings took place, one for every participant country. Final products included joint cds and dvds with songs, dances, games, festivities, recipes, historical information, the “COME.BE.EU’ hymn, a calendar including aspects of traditions and a website. The results were uploaded on the webpage of each school, on the website of the programme (www.comebe.eu) and on EST.
