Context:
The project “Coloured by the Sun, United by the Sea” aims to tackle delicate issues of racism, tolerance and successful integration of different peoples and cultures. Setting aside politics and existing prejudices, the planned activities will help children to open their minds and hearts to social integration and acceptance. “Coloured by the Sun, United by the Sea” – no matter what colour skin we have we all live together under one Sun, and no matter where in the world we are the Sea connects us all around the globe.
Aim and Objectives:
The project innovatively presents the idea of social inclusion through various contemporary arts activities at the same time targeting the quality of ECEC services and school education by developing key competences and equipping individuals with skills to contribute to a cohesive society with the help of Erasmus+ and eTwinning. The project will enrich partner institutions’ curriculum with quality learning activities that effectively engage community members in social and civic life, promotes innovation, quality improvements and internationalism collaboratively creating quality intellectual outputs: music and dance performances and an exhibition all of which speak of tolerance, acceptance, human rights and values. The planned training events will promote staff professional development and encourage sharing good practices within the partnership.
Participants:
The partnership includes 6 education institutions from 5 countries: Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Denmark and France. All partners are closely connected with target groups – young children, school pupils and local communities. The partners will benefit form each other’s experiences, specific expertise and will be able to implement innovative practices leading to high quality education that stimulate social inclusion.
Activities and methodology:
Children, teachers and local community members will engage in interesting and exciting contemporary arts activities – international online collaboration creating songs, dances and pieces of visual art; workshops including music, dance and visual arts; ICT and English language activities. Art that speaks of respect, tolerance, human values and rights will bring a strong social aspect. It is expected that participants will improve their basic and transversal skills, lead more fulfilling and happier lives, while the educational institutions will foster children’s curiosity and motivation through a better quality curriculum.
Results and impact:
Working towards the final intellectual outputs, the project will produce tangible and non-tangible results. Produced materials will enrich the curriculum with quality learning activities that help to develop key and transversal competences and active citizenship, change participants' attitudes towards learning and promote learning to learn. The main project outputs will be created in collaboration with professional artists: music and dance performances, three DVDs - "Coloured by the Sun", "United by the Sea", and "Coloured by the Su, United by the Sea", arts exhibition with a catalogue (print and on-line).
Potential benefits:
After the end of funding TwinSpace presenting project plans, materials and activities will remain open for partners and other teachers to be used. The partnership will be enlarged by taking care of the follow-up, keeping in contact with the professional artists and incorporating other schools.
