European societies face increasing challenges due to unstable situation and crisis in the Middle East, where fear and prejudice lead to acts of discrimination and hate speech. One of the ways to help foster intercultural understanding and thus enable building the grounds for more peaceful societies is to offer intercultural educational activities to young people. "Coloured Glasses" is the framework of non-formal education workshops which allow to examine one's own attitudes towards other cultures, gain an understanding of issues such as discrimination, prejudices and stereotyping, in order to develop intercultural competences. This framework could be used by new trainers to offer peace-building activities."Colour Our World" will take place in Valencia, Spain, from 23 - 30 May 2016 and will get together 22 participants from 11 countries , volunteers and staff interested in gaining training skills and providing intercultural workshops.The main aim of Colour Our World is to train trainers who are able to deliver intercultural learning workshops within the framework of Coloured Glasses (CG) and through them encourage intercultural understanding and promote solidarity and compassion.The specific objectives of this training course will be to:• increase training competencies of participants in such areas as activity creation and session design, group dynamics, pedagogy and learning styles, learning cycle• increase communication, facilitation and presentation skills in order to enable quality delivery• familiarise participants with Coloured Glasses Framework• practice delivery of Coloured Glasses workshops in local high schools • increase participants' organisational and project management skills in order to set up local CG programmes• stimulate participants' reflection upon intercultural learning based on the latest findings in intercultural researchThis event will be a basic training for trainers, which will combine the theory, experiential learning and practice as well as introduction of Coloured Glasses framework. A practical element of this training course will be the preparation of Coloured Glasses workshop for local high school students. The participants will also need to design the flow of weekend-long training courses meant to set up local Coloured Glasses programmes.During the training course, the participants will go through a learning process based on the methodology of non-formal education. A variety of methods of non-formal education will be used, such as inputs from the trainers, simulations and role plays, art-related methods, visual inputs (videos, movies, photos, graphics, flip chart draws), graphic facilitation, workshops prepared and run by participants, brainstorming, energizers, discussions, open space technology, world café and creative thinking (both in small groups and in plenary). Reflection groups will provide an opportunity to gather feedback from participants which will be used to adjust the programme to their needs. The project focuses on increasing young people's employability prospects, active citizenship and solidarity, and fosters combating all forms of discrimination through training new trainers who are able to deliver intercultural-awareness raising workshops.IMPACT & LONGER TERM BENEFITSThe envisioned impact of this training course includes the improved quality of intercultural education activities provided by YFU organisations (Coloured Glasses workshops, student orientations and volunteer trainings) as well as the increase of participants’ professional career prospects. The competences gained through the training will serve not only participants’ personal development but can greatly enhance their employment chances in the European labour market as future trainers and facilitators since they will become more confident in designing and delivering quality educational activities and will know how to manage and inspire their audiences through innovative methods.The participating organisations will increase their number of trainers qualified in intercultural competence, which will result in a bigger capacity to ensure quality non-formal educational programmes and adequately prepare and support exchange students throughout the exchange experience as well as reach out to many more young people in local high schools.There will also be an increased co-operation between YFU organisations in terms of organising joint trainings and sharing educational resources.The participants themselves, and young people they come in contact with, will be better prepared to live in the multicultural world. It is hoped that through introducing Coloured Glasses workshops to school young people will question their stereotypes and prejudices and will engage in activities supporting intercultural understanding rather than discrimination acts and intolerance. Intercultural education of the youth today can serve as the cornerstone for more peaceful societies of tomorrow.
