After successful Climate Nights in the last three years Climate Night Hamburg 2012 on September 28, 2012 again consists of attracting all the categories of the public at large and bring them together with climate scientists at one location. The last Climate Nights had around 30.000 visitors during each night and more than four million people reached by the awareness campaign each year. Climate Night 2012 is a further development of the three recent nights organised by the coordinator marking the continuation of a well-adopted and entertaining concept in the City of Hamburg.During the night on September 28, 2012 scientists will be the focus in all the activities organised and attendants will constantly be in direct contact with them, having the possibility of exchanging on any topic of their interest, linked or not to the job as researcher. Researchers are to be shown as ordinary people and the profession researcher as fundamental for the well-being of the society. Visitors have the chance to interact with researchers in diverse manners. The research focus in Climate Night 2012 will be put on architecture and climate change. Researchers will open their work to the public and showing aspects of their life as researchers.The new focus on architectural science is best transformed in one of the most prominent inner-city waterfront development projects in the world, the HafenCity. Therefore this district will be the major location of Climate Night Hamburg 2012. Another focus will again be put on Climate Change. A recent EU survey shows the increased public concern about Climate Change and the need for the awareness of economic benefits of action. The political discourse about nuclear power plants has also boosted the interest of the population and media in the whole area of Climate Protection, climate adaption and renewable energy. In Hamburg all those sectors are well-represented by researchers and companies with research and development departments.
