Two years ago the VBS HAK/HAS Floridsdorf school community unanimously agreed on introducing CLIL classes into the school program. In September 2013 the first class (first graders this year) was opened. Every year the number of classes will increase and more and more teachers with a good command of English will be needed. Simultaneously with the opening of the first CLIL class in our school staff members enrolled in teacher-in-service training programs at local further education institutions. In order to secure the sustainable integration of CLIL into our school program a pool of teachers with the proper qualifications must be trained. Beside a comprehensive knowledge of CLIL methodology teachers should be given the opportunity to fully immerse in the culture and traditions of the language they will use to teach students their subjects. This way a further focus on cross curricular teaching in a global as well as increasingly virtual classroom is provided. This summer 5 teachers of our first CLIL class will participate in the Erasmus+ program. After their return they will pass on their experience to all those teachers who work in a CLIL class to raise awareness to further language education programs abroad. Our goal is to open one CLIL class every year. The CLIL teaching approach is a very motivating way for students to get them interested in student exchange programs across Europe. The Vienna Business School Floridsdorf as a member of the UNESCO school network is committed to student mobility and intercultural education. Our aim is to get in contact with schools of other European countries that also have CLIL classes and to share our experiences on etwinning.net.
