Within the frame of the energy topic, the partnership intends to develop an energy awareness , thanks to a better knowledge of the various kinds of energetic sources and of the inclination of a country to approach one rather than others (i.e. solar energy for Italy and hydroelectric energy for Austria). A second aim is the strengthening of the competences for different technologies of energy saving, production and exploitation and sharing these and the results with the partner school through a continuous flow of information exchange on the net. Besides, the partnership intends to focus on the leading role energy plays nowadays for an enhancement of life quality, which undoubtedly passes through a supporting policy of sustainable energy. The project tasks enable students to a more critical evaluation of economical and ecological advantages and disadvantages of the energy sources examined in the project.Due to the geographical features of both areas, the partners focus on hydroelectric power. Within this broad field, components and function of hydroelectric power plants, including small hydroelectric power plants (“micro-energy”), are examined, tests and calculations aredone and concepts for a screwpump (Archimedes’ screw) are developed. Moreover, students in Vicenza develop a data acquisition system, which is tested in a model plant. Jointly produced products are a glossary on hydroelectric power plants in English, German and Italian language, as well as the documentation on the web based platform for presenting and distributing the results of the partnership (www.small-hydro.eu).
