TERMINÉ
Circus is a very effective way to develop the key competences of learning which are important among the EU formal and non-formal learning programs and which are strongly linked to the competences which are needed in life and in society.
The project 'circus and community - feasibility visit' is a cooperation between 7 European circus schools (Circusplaneet vzw from Gent (BE), Pocket Circus from Glasgow (UK), Circus Stjerneskud from Bornholm (DK), Circus Central from Newcastle (UK), Associazione Giocolieri e Dintorni from Civitavecchia (IT), Kulturverein KAOS from Wien (AT) and GrenzKultur gGmbH from Berlin (DE)) and is a first step in the creation of a European network which focusses on the topic circus and community.
The goals of this project are:
1 To establish a sustainable network of organisations and researchers through this project which organises future actions under the Erasmus+-program.
2 Connect research and practice in the field of European youth circus, through a laboratory and collaborative research process.
3 Investigate and raise awareness about the transformative potential of circus as a tool for fostering different ways to perceive and construct social relations, thus promoting community building and social change.
4 explore and expand the theoretical underpinnings of circus as a tool for community empowerment.
On the 6th and 7th of September 2014, a group of 14 experienced youth circus trainers and organisers were part of a feasibility meeting in order to get to know each other, exchange knowledge and practices on how to use circus as a tool for community empowerment, explore possible forms of coöperation around the topic of Community Circus and to work on future projects under the Erasmus+ program.
During the 2 days, the participants worked together through a variety of working methods: Ice-breaker games, presentations, human castell building initiation, collaborative workshops, brainstorm sessions, a guided tour through the neighbourhood, informal discussions during breaks and mealtimes, exploring topics in small groups and discussing the results, reflecting on the subject to find a common ground and an evaluation of the meeting.
After the meeting, all participants were motivated to keep in touch with each other to continue the work that was started at the meeting. This resulted in the cooperation of 6 of the 7 partners to organise a youth exchange in Gent in July 2015 with the title ""Clowning around: humour as a tool for intercultural communication"". In addition to this, the partners are preparing to apply for a KA2 project ""Circus Tornado"".
