Discussions about the challenges for teachers in classes with a high percentage ofmigrants are frequent but the discussions about the particular challenges for teachers inadult-education courses are relatively rare. They are also confronted with increaseddiversity and heterogeneity in their education courses. Participants differ in gender, ageand educational background and also in cultural socialisation and language knowledge.Teachers are often over-challenged with these different situations and their traditionalteaching methods don’t match the needs in the same way as before.For migrants, a lot of challenges arise from the classes - teaching methods andmaterials are not adapted to their specific needs. Changing this situation requiresactivities to raise awareness of the issue, to identify the problems of teachers anddevelop new strategies to handle these challenges.Thus this project aims to adapt existing and developing new teaching methods whichshould support teachers of vocational training in their teaching of mixed groups(migrants and non-migrants). The project focuses on the teachers’ perspective - basedon the concept of intercultural education, teachers are invited to reconsider theirperspectives and enhance their teaching competences and spectrum. A research phasedelivers information about the biggest challenges from the target group’s point of view.Workshops with teachers followed by field tests will be carried to help the teachers pilotthese new ideas and reflect on their approaches.As a result, a “Tool-Kit” with useful methods for teaching mixed groups will be developedand translated in the partner country languages. Intense dissemination will supportawareness-raising via a website and various exploitation activities spread especially toeducation centres.
