In 2015 Amber Initiatives wants to invite 3 volunteers to work on the project ‘ Chances and Challenges’ in the Amber office in Plymouth, England for short and long EVS placement, 2 and 12 months placements. The activities planned for the project aim at exploring the themes of migration, social exclusion and European cultural awareness. The volunteers will gain an insight into local culture through working within the community and through the social activities that form an integral part of the project. The project is the multicultural platform to promote social inclusion and active citizenship on national and European level. The project aims to stimulate mutual tolerance and raise awareness about other cultures, to develop solidarity, mutual understanding and tolerance among young people, thus contributing to reinforcing social cohesion in the British society and European Union and to promoting young people's active citizenship. The project aims to contribute to personal and professional development of the volunteers as well as help the people from local communities to become more open and tolerant towards foreigners. The working environment provides intercultural learning. The project addresses the need of young people from migrant background to increase their participation in the life of local community through reducing barriers to successful integration and social inclusion as well as to increase cultural awareness of the host country and European cultural diversity in the whole in order to build pathway to mobility of young people. Objectives of the project are: -To increase intercultural awareness and promote EU cultural diversity - To promote active citizenship and social inclusion of young migrants, including Roma people - To promote mobility and active participation of young people from disadvantage communities in intercultural activities within the EU and beyond - To improve the level of key competences and skills of young people, involved in the project, to enhance their employability - To enhance ICT uptake into non-formal learning - To improve marketing activities of the company to reinforce an international image and cooperation with European organisations The involvement of the EVS volunteer in cultural activities and events will foster mutual understanding between young people from different socio- and cultural background. As Plymouth is a predominantly monocultural city, there is a need to promote cultural diversity and intercultural learning and dialogue. The idea of the project is to explore the differences and values of European cultures, using this as a tool for promoting social inclusion and active citizenship. The project aims to promote active involvement in social life of people from local community and raise their awareness of opportunities available throughout European Programmes.
