Challenging Tablets in the Classroom
Date du début: 1 févr. 2016, Date de fin: 31 déc. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

As an approved "Media School" we are very engaged in media-awareness and use. Projectors, document cameras, smartboards and computers belong to our daily school routine as well as our homepage and iServ. But, development never stops and by now even newer technologies like the tablet will find their ways into our classrooms. This new technology displays a challenge and many people doubt the effectiveness of tablets at school. Nevertheless, we do believe that tablets will be a major medium which will soon be found in each classroom. So, we faced the challenge and started a first project introducing iPads to a group of students. Our first undertakings in class proved to be a real challenge and it became clear that much more knowledge is necessary here. As a result we figured that we cannot ignore the development of media and need to keep learning to ensure and develop our school's quality. We have to open up for new methods in class. With this project we want to widen our competences in different fields, namely: our competence media- and method-wise as well as our interculturel competence. To enhance those skills we want to attend three courses in different European countries (Portugal, Spain). There, we want to learn which opportunities tablets hold for us. The first course will concentrate on basic skills, providing us with knowledge on how to use tablets in the classroom in general. The first course will set the basic principles for the second course which will include best-practice examples from European neighbours. Problems and challenges will also be a topic and of major importance is the question, how to implement tablets in school. The third course deals with the usage of tablets in the English classroom and will be applicable to other languages. All in all, we want the project particpants to improve their knowledge regarding the different chances tablets offer in the classroom.Experiencing the work of other countries will also serve as an encouragement for our project team. In the end, we hope that positive experience will strengthen us and our efforts to successfully use new media in the classroom context. In the long run we want to use our newly learned skills to integrate tablets into our daily teaching routine. The project results will help us to successfully bear the name "Media-School".
