Date du début: 15 déc. 2014, Date de fin: 14 déc. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project "Ways to Improve Teaching in Secondary School" consisted of 2 activities which included the current needs of our school - professional development of the teachers and the school management. The first part of the Project - Activity A1 - was based on the participation of 12 general education teachers, and included a week long international mobility in groups of 3 participants. The work programme included the opportunity to observe 20 lessons of host teachers of the same specialization and 10 lessons spent in the direct school life - to get acquainted with the system and school routines, and the level of education provided. The working week also included 10 hours of preparing written materials for presentation and publication activities. During the mobility, our teachers in the receiving institution became acquainted with the system of education in the country, including its conception and the use of modern teaching methods in innovative educational programmes, which led to higher effectiveness and quality of our own teaching and work organisation. They also got acquainted with textbooks and other study materials. International mobilities took place in schools the selection of which depended on comparable levels of education, and a sufficient number of school subjects. We preferred schools which we successfully collaborated with in the past and which provided us with optimal conditions aimed at the Project. The mobilities took place in 4 schools abroad: Stredna zdravotnicka škola Poprad - Slovakia, Cigli Fen Lisesi - Izmir - Turkey, Srednja zdravstvena sola Ljubljana - Slovenia, Liceo scientifico statale Leonardo da Vinci Sora - Italy. Teachers of general education courses, who took part in the mobilities, were university graduates with master´s degree and a minimum of one year teaching practice at our school, all of them work full time, i.e. 21 hours a week. Teachers of maths, physics, chemistry, Czech, history, civics and government were sent to Slovakia, teachers of English, German, physics and chemistry - to Turkey, teachers of Czech, biology, P.E., chemistry and physics were in Slovenia, and teachers of Czech, history, maths, biology and English - in Italy. The second part of the Project - Activity 2 - was based on involving 3 members of the school management and the educational counsellor in the Project. They took part in a methodology course in Iceland which was focused on disadvantaged students. They learned about new methods of education which are supposed to reduce disadvantage. One of these already implemented teaching strategies is a method of cooperative learning. The Project was aimed at helping the progress of disadvantaged students and their chances to get quality education. The length of the Project was 12 months. The main aim of the Project was to gain new knowledge and experience, it was focused on motivation, support of individual creativity and acquiring new teaching skills, and management skills of the leaders of the school, which should improve school results of our students, their motivation and a better labour market position. The outcome of the Project was gaining new educational experiences and sharing them with other teachers in workshops, innovative educational programmes, putting new teaching methods into practice. Within the framework of the Project, workshops were held by subject departments, and a school conference for all teachers of our school was organised. At the conference each international mobility was introduced. The participants of the mobility in Iceland organised 2 seminars, in which they introduced methods of cooperative learning theoretically and practically. During the Project, language competences and new teaching methods were strengthen. We think cooperative learning with the emphasis on multicultural approach to students has been successfully implemented in our school. Other new methods started to be used in teaching, e.g. brainstorming techniques, teaching lexicology in the library in the Czech language lessons, Prezi presentation software in biology lessons, interview methods in English lessons etc. During the Project, teachers have gained a lot of information about different cultures and values, which is reflected in their teaching. The outcome of the Project is improvement in teaching methods, especially those concerning minority cultures in the Czech Republic. The publication entitled "Teaching General Education Courses in Selected E.U. Countries" has contributed to the goal of the Project. It has been presented on our school website and has been sent electronically to selected secondary schools in the Czech Republic. The added value of the Project has been implementation of new educational methods not only in teaching general education courses but also vocational ones.
