Maastricht University intends to build on its strong foundations in the teaching and research of European affairs through the launch of a major new initiative: the establishment of a new centre devoted to the interdisciplinary study European integration. This new Centre for European Research in Maastricht (CERiM) will bring together researchers from Law, Political Science, History, Diplomacy and International Relations as well as European Public Health. In each of these disciplines Maastricht University is already leading in the study of Europe, but by working together within a common framework provided by CERiM, we intend to achieve new synergies and add further value to our work. The initiative will strengthen the existing ties between the Faculties co-hosting this centre and develop further the study of European integration in Maastricht, with a view to facilitating new and innovative research in specific topical areas. The mission of CERiM will be to engage in various kinds of activities: • Developing own research projects and lending support to individual members and participating institutes in engaging in new research projects. • Facilitating the organisation of international workshops and conferences with high-profile experts in the field (academics and practitioners)• Organising academic dissemination and outreach activities. CERiM will provide a platform through which the communication with stakeholders (press releases, press enquiries, policy briefs, etc.) will be organized in a professional and systematic manner. • Creating a forum for intellectual exchange with civil society in Maastricht and beyond: CERiM will contribute to the discussion on EU-related topics in the University and in the city and province, for instance through a lecture series and other public events.The centre’s main concentration will be on stimulating new and innovative joint projects and events in the fields of European law, EU governance, and European history.
