POV, an umbrella organisation of schools and centres of adult education, is looking for partner organisations who have built a strong expertise about coaching and supporting teachers (especially newly qualified teachers), about innovative didactic methodologies, including ICT supported learning and about functional, task based language teaching. These 3 pillars are forming the CAT-project: Coaching, Active didactics and Task based language teaching. For each pillar POV has built a design team of advisors who will develop training courses for teachers, who will coordinate networks and supervision sessions for teachers and who will work out projects together with the schoolleader and a representative team of staff in the centres. POV focusses on the 3 items because research, reports of the inspectorate and the centres themselves have indicated a need of teachers and school leaders to be supported in those areas. POV already invested in professionalization of its staff: talent recognition and development, active learning and teaching methods, integration of ICT-tools in the classroom and language teaching policies and practices. So the participants of the CAT-project, already have some experience in each area but to (re)form our training offer and guidance initiatives they need to expand and deepen their knowledge and skills. Concerning the first pillar, coaching, the emphasis of the professionalization will be on video interaction guidance (a technique to improve of teaching and communication skills), coaching skills and the process of reflection. The second item, active didactics, concerns inspiring innovative teaching methods and didactic work forms in the field of active learning. The methodologies can be ICT-based or not. For the last cluster, language teaching, POV has a double objective: first of all, good practices of communicative teaching of modern foreign languages (MFL) but also example of school (centre) language policies, regarding the main instruction language (Dutch in our case). All they have learned by following courses and conferences, by networking and sharing expertise, by visiting institutions of adult education, will be disseminated by the staff of POV by means of newsfeed, internal and external meetings and networks. But the aims POV envisages go further: based on the input by the project the design teams will adjust the current supporting initiatives and develop new initiatives for all of the 3 clusters. POV will make an interim evaluation as well as a final evaluation to adjust and to learn from the several experiences. By the CAT-project POV wants to respond better to the needs of our ‘clients’: school leaders, coordinators and teachers of the provincial centres of adult education.
