The project "Carnaval de Nonformal III" is a continuation of two other projects (2013 and 2015) that included one big activity in which EVS volunteers promote non-formal methods in the community of Baia Mare. The project is a long-term EVS service for 10 volunteers that will spend 7 months in the hosting community in Romania. The sending organizations in the project are the following: Pro Atlantico Portugal, CRIJ Reunion France, Intercultura France, 4YOUgend Austria, Building Bridges Spain, JOINT Italy, TAHE Estonia and Stuttgarter Jugendhaus Germany.
The activities in the project are diverse and are all directed towards two main goals, one of them continuing the promotion of non-formal methods through public events and Carnival and the second focusing on changing the mindset of the community regarding non-discriminative behavior, non-violent speech, healthy lifestyle, sustainable development. Therefore, the main objectives of the project are:
O1. To develop competences for event organizing, educational skills, teaching methods and intercultural learning to a number of 10 foreign volunteers from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Estonia and Reunion, during 7 months of service.
O2. To open the community of Baia Mare towards tolerance and acceptance through non-formal education, by involving a number of 600 people in events and activities on topics like No Hate Speech, human rights, intercultural learning, non-discrimination, during 8 months of events.
O3. To promote EVS and local voluntarism for a number of 300 youngsters from Baia Mare and surroundings, either through promotion campaigns or through involving 50 local volunteers in the implementation of the project.
The main methods used in the project are non-formal methods of all kind, starting from short methods like energizers and street animation to methods lasting longer and with greater impact like Photo Voice, Living Library, Forum Theater, puppet and shadow theater, world cafe, storytelling and other ideas the volunteers might have on the way. What is more, the project includes a set of public events that will be organized using methods like Delivering Life, outdoor happenings, exhibitions, shows, presentations, public speaking. Every month the volunteers will research one of the topics proposed in the project and will organize a debate between experts and opinion leaders from the community, activity that will be filmed and edited intro a video material called "Message to community!".
On the long run, the project aims at establishing a tradition of Carnaval de Nonformal as a public event organized in Baia Mare, gathering people from all over the country to join non-formal activities organized by foreign volunteers. Also, the project will bring great impact in the community that, year by year, is becoming more aware of what non-formal education can bring as value to the traditional educational methods.
