CARIBU-Cooperation with ACP countries in Regional and International Bridging of Universities

The CARIBU consortium consist of 8 EU and 12 non EU HEIs partners of which the general management is shared between the coordinator Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and the joint coordinator Jimma University (JU) in Ethiopia. The composition of this consortium takes into account the geographical distribution, teaching languages, study fields, experience as well as types of university (public, private, general or specialized, urban/non - urban). Furthermore, the consortium is also enforced by 10 associate members who will act as bodies of active support and who will bring additional valuable expertise to the partnership in terms of international cooperation mechanisms. All partners and associate members aim to stimulate academic mobility between ACP and European HEIs and to provide the beneficiaries with an experience on both educational and personal level that will enhance their future career prospective. In addition, this project emphasis on institutional cooperation, enhancing of teaching capacity and managerial skills, which are enforced through planned staff mobility, seminars, workshops and consortium meetings. CARIBU focuses on the thematic fields which have been identified by ACP HEIs as representing the biggest needs for their country, being Engineering, ICT, Environment, Sciences, Agriculture, Management and Social Sciences. In 3 cohorts, a total of 210 mobilities will be awarded to selected candidates (152 MA, 27 PhD, 31 staff) in all TG’s. Awareness for the needs of vulnerable groups and the principals of equal opportunities, gender balance, and objective selection are the transversal topics addressed in the project. CARIBU strives towards sustainable cooperation that will continue beyond the borders of this EMA2 project. Through this consortium, an academic forum will be created where further collaborations can be developed and where research related institutional best practices can be transferred to the home institutions.
