Cardinal Kominek - an unrecognized father of the European reconciliation
Date du début: 1 mai 2015, Date de fin: 31 mars 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

We propose to organize a touring exhibition concerning the figure of the Cardinal Boleslaw Kominek (1903-1974), archbishop of Wroclaw, the author of the letter send in 1965 by Polish bishops to their German counterparts with the famous sentence “We forgive and we ask for forgiveness”, and therefore one of the promoters of the Polish-German reconciliation. Kominek can be regarded as one of Fathers of European reconciliation. It is obvious, that without the Polish-German reconciliation which paved the way towards recognition by the Federal Republic of Germany of the Polish Western frontier on the Oder-Neisse line, the enlargement of the European Union to the East would be jeopardized or even made straight impossible. We will use the fascination and the beauty of an exhibition to address a very important contemporary and historical topic. The history of Kominek is linked to the war history of Europe. Indeed, in the last centuries Europe was a place of war. The project intends to show that Europe, beyond of a culture of war has also developed in the last decade a culture of reconciliation. The dates of the Exhibition are: November 2015 – January 2016 Brussels, February 2016 – April 2016 Berlin, May 2016 – July 2016 Wroclaw. The project will be implemented by three partners, who also represent completely different types of organizations: the City of Wroclaw, Polish body of public local administration (project leader), Zukunft Stiftung Berlin, an association from Berlin and Tempora SA, Belgian professional exhibitions’ designer, producer and operator. What is also very important, this exhibition will constitute part of the program for the European Capital of Culture 2016 in Wroclaw, which will – among other – deal with the city’s history and heritage in the European context. Being part of the official ECoC 2016 programme will make it complementary to other cultural actions.
