'Capacity building for staff: Whole-school approach to learning, health and sustainability in school food systems.'

This application is aimed at improved capacity-building, EU-citizenship and linguistic competences among staff in relevant areas of the project. The organisation consists of a partnership between University College Lillebaelt and six schools in four municipalities in Denmark: Aalborg, Herning, Svendborg and Ishoej. The aim of the organisation is to implement and expand an innovative school-food system, that integrates promotion of pupils health and learning and sustainable development. During preparatory stages the LOMA organisation has conducted a special capacity building activity during 2015. Educational and non-educational staff from the six schools have participated in special training courses, 'LOMA-EDU', with the purpose of developing and conducting pilot educational activities at their schools. Here focus has been directed to the promotion of students' development of food-and health related action-competence, including knowledge, practical, social skills and well-being. However, in order to strengthen capacity building among staff, it is of vital importance for this project to study whole-school approaces in the EU. Especially, such as Food for Life in the UK, which integrates promotion of pupils' learning, health and sustainable development. The objectives of the current project are the improvement of :a. Staff competencesb. New teaching methods and toolsc. School developmentd. Organisation of teaching and learninge. Organisation of networkThere will be 24 participants at the course arranged by Food For Life. The profile of the participants is teaching and non-teaching staff. This includes teachers, pedagogical assistents, school managers and kitchen-managers. The activities encompass a four-day course with the following activities: • School-visits to improve knowledge and expericence about school development and meetings with teachers to support transmission of knowledge and experience about teaching in FFL approach and linguistic and intercultural competences. • Meetings with headmasters and municipal key-personnel to improve organisational understanding, collaboration skills and management competences. • Training in new teaching methods via schoolfood cooking and learning workshops, to improve teaching capacity regarding integration of pupils' cooking schoolfood as integrated in curriculum in several subjects. • Teaching in quality standards and evaluations to improve knowledge and understanding regarding the function of a joint quality system as the basis for on-going evaluations from internal and external evaluators.• Studying relevant educational farms and other relevant companies to improve knowledge about how cooperation with farms, gardens and other relevant companies and food-networks can be organised and carried out in a way that supports curriculum activities. The methodology to be used in carrying out the project include a participatory approach that encourage social learning and working as community of practice. Furthermore, to involve pupils in actions and decisionmaking in order to improve ownership and action competence.Envisaged results and impact can be devided in outputs and outcomes: immediate and long-term:• Output: Participants have completed the course and take part in subsequent dissemination in Denmark. Schools include participants at the course as key-personnel in LOMA development and implementation for the benefit of pupils learning. Courses at CFU, UCL are carried out at regional level, with possible participation from the whole country.• Immediate outcome: Improved knowledge and skills measured by quantitative and qualitative methods. The inclusion and application of new knowledge and skills is performed shortly after the course to promote learning, health and wellbeing among pupils. Dissemination via social media during the course, eTwinning and homepage during the course receives attention from target group audience – teaching and non-teaching staff in Danish Schools.• Long-term outcome: Application of outcome in daily work in LOMA project and dissemination to colleagues at own school and new schools. The learning outcome among participants is applied in every-day life at the school. This promotes pupils' learning, health, wellbeing and action competence. Also it supports the implementation of an integrated, whole-school, LOMA approach in a longer perspective and in larger networks. Dissemination via regional and national courses motivates target group schools to apply for participation in the LOMA project during expansion phases in 2017-2020
