The "Empowering+ Learning Better" project, which São Bruno school intends to implement, is based on a survey of the teachers' training needs, as a result of European Dimension projects that were and must keep part of the school's identity.
European mobility is not seen as an end to achieve the objectives of this institution, concerning the necessary and ongoing teachers lifelong learning, but rather a medium that favors the improvement of language skills , access to information and narrowing contacts that allow the organization and the effective accomplishment of multiple activities with students, who are the primary recipients of actions to raise awareness of European citizenship.
During two academic years (Term and semester breaks) the necessary conditions will be created to give opportunities to 8/10 teachers , out of 15 from the Department of Languages, to empower linguistically and technologically, by the attendance and participation in job shadowing activities and in courses, such as " ICT for Collaborative , Project - based, Teaching and Learning Course ", seminars , and conferences as " ESP International Planning conferences - Junior Programme " in mobility actions, between 4 and 14 days.
Participants will be selected according to their profile giving more weight to their motivation and ease to engage students in various projects, as well as their willingness to share good practice with colleagues inside and outside the school.
Their commitment to the project implies presentation of reports and holding dissemination sessions for the educational community, witnessing not only the professional development reached, but also the applicability to effective work with students.
Simultaneously and according to the annual plans of the School Cluster, and also referred in the Educational School Project and Curriculum Plan, activities and projects will be pursued on a regular and more intense basis, with the implementation of new pedagogical actions, such as:
- Introduction to German language as an option for second language alongside French and Spanish, or just as a complementary school offer;
- Multilateral project with the use of ICT, with six schools belonging to the European Studies Programme (ESP) network, which gives priority to communication in English language and technology means available for education, as well as to furthering tolerance, mutual understanding and appreciation of the cultures of others;
- Introduction of a new subject in the curriculum at the beginning of the low secondary, called "European Studies and Projects" as a complementary offer, and thus certify pupils according to the Common Framework for Europe Competence (CFEC), as provided by Elos network, recognized at European and international level.
The changes in teaching and learning methodology, the motivation for collaborative work in multinational teams, the challenges of planning and managing projects and getting to know others (peers, students, schools, school systems ... ) are the encouragement to a responsible contribution to improve teacher skills in mentoring students in their academic career and personal and professional development.
São Bruno School increases its potential to the extent that the staff, united by the same goals, is able to achieve levels of excellence in the performance of its duties and the provision of high quality educational service.
