Campus Europae Foreign Languages Learning Gateway
Campus Europae Foreign Languages Learning Gateway
Aiming to have its students acquire the language and culture of two foreign associate universities whilst studying for their undergraduate and masters degree, Campus Europae must offer an integrated pathway for quick and consistent language learning during university years. The project will offer a blended approach to foreign language learning combining live and virtual classrooms and tutoring, offering a practical curriculum and proven tools for different stages/types of language acquisition, a self-learning strategy, harmonised assessment modules to measure progress, as well as a language village or ‘hood animated by fellow CE movers. The project will pool as much as possible existing resources combining these in a pathway to be tested by its CE movers; The project will develop simultaneously pathways for the 12 languages of the network (and ideally from their combination) : DE, FI, FR, ES, IT, LV, LT, PL, PT, TR, Russian and Serbian. In its first quarter, after compiling a database of existing tools classified according to its purpose (vocabulary acquisition, grammar drills, practical conversations, etc.), its support and eventually its language combination, the project will select tools to incorporate in the pathway which will be made available from the second quarter in conjunction with language learning awareness events such as taster courses and language workshops. The development of learning material will be pursued / adapted especially for those languages where not many materials, tools and language combinations are available. This development will be possible in conjunction with the Language and Philology departments of the universities. Students learning a language will be closely monitored and will provide detailed information for evaluation purposes. Students will also actively contribute live and on-line by supporting/tutoring students learning their mother tongue. The second year will see the consolidation and the extension of the offer to more advanced levels of the language and the evaluation of the tools used with reference to their relevance for Campus Europae’s language learning strategy and for its extension to other movers. Before ending, the project will present in each of the 14 (16) regions where the member universities are located, the methodology and the tool developed. It is expected that this approach can be extended to all students (school, higher and vocational students) provided the pathway has closely targeted the needs and interests of the group.
