Buitenlandse toerismestage: opleiding tot animator of reisleider op bestemming
Date du début: 1 sept. 2016, Date de fin: 31 août 2018 PROJET  TERMINÉ

As a school for Tourism, the Saint-Joseph’s Business and Tourism school in Bruges features a Se-n-Se (a post secondary education)-training for Tour Guides and Entertainers. This educational programme comprises one schoolyear (from September through June), of which the final two months are an exclusive traineeship abroad. This training is situated on level 4 of the European Qualifactions Framework. Having successfully completed the programme and traineeship, students receive a certificate. The training mainly focusses on employment abroad, either as a tour guide or as an entertainer. Within the training, 4 pillars are recognizable: striving for more maturity, introducing students to a network of touristic companies, refining the language skills and turning theory into practice. These goals can only be achieved through the experience of a foreign traineeship. To guarantee the quality of this training, only 22 students (age around 18) a year are allowed. We expect students to show a broad and keen interest in tourism, to be socially motivated, to make a sincere effort to express themselves in at least 5 languages (Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish), and to be open-minded towards new cultures.Entertainers are, amongst others, responsible for children’s entertainment within the mini-club of a hotel, sports and games, evening shows, presentations in various languages, operating light and sound systems, public and/or guest relations, …Tour Guides on destination count the following tasks among their job duties: receiving customers at the airport and transferring guests towards their hotels, PR in the hotels, holding multilingual information meetings about the destination(s), selling excursions, car hire, administration, follow-up of customers and complaints, …Students are thoroughly prepared for this traineeship through practice oriented classroom activities, various projects and a preparatory training by our training partner. A lot of attention is also paid to the organizational side of a prolonged stay abroad. During the traineeship the students are under constant guidance by a responsible on site. There is a weekly consultation between the trainee and the school. Teachers also pay the trainees a visit at which evaluation and adjustment takes place between the teacher, the trainee and the local supervisor. The traineeship results in an enhanced independency of the students, a better knowledge and understanding by the student of the foreign culture and the extension of the student’s language skills. Through the positive evaluation at the end of the traineeship, a great number of the students are offered the opportunity to subscribe a working contract with the training partner or a comparable organization. Thanks to this project we have established a continuous collaboration with our training partner and we are able offer a quality education that constantly reacts upon the actual needs of the tourist work market.
