Xenophobia is rapidly increasing and it’s becoming a predominant attitude, even in countries that consider themselves open-minded and multicultural, despite the European anti-discrimination legislation.It becomes mandatory to inform and prepare the new generations to recognize their own ideas, their perceptions and to identify good practices in favor of the "acceptance of the others"; consequently to spread and encourage these good practices.This project came up from the awareness that the fight against racism and xenophobia is a fundamental challenge for democracy and civil life.In fact, as in the '30s occurred a rise in nationalism, produced from the fear of “the different” and from racial discrimination, today the fear of "the foreigners", represented by the many asylum seekers and not, sees the birth, proliferation and strengthening, of anti-democratic movements, with underlying racial prejudices.Hence the connection between the issue of refugees, migration flows and its intrinsic meaning, with the annual event that takes place at Colle del Lys: a meeting on the themes of the liberation of the Continent from dictatorships, the building of new identities, the constitutional values and the sense of "European citizenship".Aims:Provide opportunities and practical skills to the participants, useful for personal growth.Encourage young people to increase their contacts and a better understanding between individuals, both with and without migration background.Develop interaction between groups, reduce prejudices and stereotypes, and fight racism and discrimination. Allow to develop measures and recommendations to create greater international cooperation and collaboration.Activities and methodologies used:The program of this project foresees much practical work, simulation games and role-playing games; a great interaction with the hosting territory and with youth groups, meetings with citizens.During the project the intercultural learning will be fostered through non-formal learning processes, such as: sharing of cultures, communication processes, presentation of each own country, visits to historical venues in the hosting country, discussions, reflections, assessments, dissemination of the results; so the group can share knowledge and develop skills.As recognition of the experiences gained that participants will receive the Youth Pass. Addressing and better understanding the issue of combating the discrimination, learning to recognize where these threats could hide, better understanding them by putting them in relation with the history, the participants will deepen different topics, to report in their local contexts, applying to all levels, in different contexts of social life. The project will contribute to the integration of refugees into local communities and increase tolerance and solidarity in society, encouraging an active citizenship. The inspiring idea is to increasingly encourage young people to join in voluntary work, in order to build a civic responsibility that could improve the European social life.The results will be monitored and tested throughout the duration of all the activities; to empower their benefit and potential, both short and long-term.In the end, the group will prepare, a "Handbook of Good Practices", containing multilingual texts, drawings, cartoons, posters", which will be printed and shared.
