The Danish guidebook “Bevaringsguiden” was published in autumn 2011 and it has proved to be a very good pedagogical tool in the training of building craftsmen. One of the co-authors is the Center of Building Restoration, which is a department at Syddansk Erhvervsskole, Odense. The training is based upon Danish building history and culture and for some time a need for internationalization of the training has come up. In the future, many of the Danish building craftsmen are likely to find jobs in the EU as well as many bricklayers, carpenters and cabinet makers from the EU will seek employment in Denmark, i.e. the workforce will be much more mobile.It is the aim of this project to internationalize the in-service training of building craftsmen in Sweden, Germany, Spain and Denmark. And to help maintain the heritage of historic buildings by re-introducing traditional skills used by the historic mobile labor force that used to travel Europe and work wherever there was a possibility The primary target group will be teachers, meaning the teachers who teach the building craftsmen in their in-service training in the four mentioned countries.The secondary target group will be craftsmen in the four partner countries who participate in international supplementary training.The objective is to develop a European Restoration Guide, with point of departure in the Danish Restoration Guide, for teaching purposes, based upon 4 restoration cases in the partner countries. The product is foreseen to be a European restoration guidebook with descriptions of and solutions to concrete restoration cases, showing in pictures how the 4 restoration cases were handled in the partner countries. Texts will be in English, and it is supposed to be very visual with many pictures supported with texts in English, Danish, German and Spanish. The guidebook will also give an introduction to the 4 countries' cultural and historical building restoration practices as well as the politics in this area (economical support, listing, etc.). Low energy and insulation methods will be discussed as well. The guide book will be edited and published by a Danish subcontractor, the material based upon the case-participants' photos, recordings, suggestions and comments. Each country chooses a project coordinator to administer the case.All partners will involve relevant associations, mostly as silent partners, and use their networks to communicate the results via seminars, magazine articles, articles etc.
