"Building a link between generations"
Date du début: 30 juin 2014, Date de fin: 29 juin 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project will take place at «Centar Fenix» in Sanski Most. This city is multicultural with mostly Bosniaks and less number of Serbs and Kroats. All people live in free practice of their faith and each other in peace and respect. Main objectives of this project, for the volunteer, will be the benefice of working in a local and friendly environment, the occasion of learning about the recent history of the Balkans region, especially Bosnia-Herzegovina, the opportunity of learning language, tradition and culture of the country and the chance to become familiar with reality and problems of post-conflict society. This project is a good chance for her to learn about herself and learn how to work together face to face with people of other backgrounds and other experiences. Our organization can host not more than four volunteers at the same time. We choose the volunteer base on various criteria: interest in working with elderly, women, children, disabled people / motivation / responsibility/ tolerance / flexibility / maturity / helpful / ready to work independent or in teams / organizing skills. The volunteer would take part in many different tasks in the whole NGO and choose areas of activities according to her own interests: office work, social care, creative workshops for women, children and elderly, organization of events, kitchen work, language training courses, etc. We offer the following tasks within three different structures by a staff of 15 persons : Mother & child Center, project social services for elderly, and Children's Group Butterflies . The volunteer can especially be active in organizing leisure-time-activities and ipersonal welfare: - Encouragement of contacts of residents but also the staff; - Assistance in regular programs (memory training, senior daily club, yoga, gymnastics); - Assistance in the organization of excursions and other events; - Getting to know the clients in their life: build relationship, have conversations, find out personal history; - Leisure activities (handicraft work, games, excursions, and other things according to own ideas and talents); - Organizing several outdoor activities. At first in both projects, the volunteer will be introduced with the main philosophy of the NGO, rules and principles. Volunteers will be taught how to work with target group that she has chosen, how to organize her share time and activities. The staff together with the volunteer will build a team that will plan, lead and carry out the different activities. The volunteer will have certain responsibilities by participating in planned activities. She will never work alone, and will have a support from team leader, program coordinator and director. Moreover, the volunteer will have Bosnian language course given by professional teachers. With this project, the volunteer will be exposed to a new culture while working directly with elderly, children, women, families and our team of professionals. Socially, this is a significant and valuable experience as volunteer learns to work and socialize cross-culturally. She will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of engaging a dialogue around sensitive issues such as war, conflict, discrimination, racism, poverty and other taboo topics. The volunteer will also be exposed to methods and practices of interventions around post-conflict issues in transitioning society. It is expected that she will come away from this experience with a greater understanding of these types of interventions and how they can be successfully implemented, and she will inevitably learn something about herself in this process. To sum up, the volunteer will have a chance to increase her key competences described in Youthpass such as: communication in foreign languages, social and civic competences, sense of initiative and entrepreneurship and cultural awareness and expression. In general, EVS experience represents a chance to make young Europeans more familiar with Bosnia-Herzegovina, its reality, history, tradition and challenges. This project is a good opportunity to share points of view, new ideas with the volunteer. These exchanges are enriching for our team and provide opportunities to learn about each other homelands. In our opinion, this is the most effective way of enhancing inter-European dialogue, understanding and deepening integration between its people.
